Seth Jarvis buried a one-timer at 3:56 of overtime Thursday night to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final at Lenovo Center in Raleigh. The series is now tied 1-1.
Jarvis ripped a shot from the left face-off circle off a feed from Shayne Gostisbehere, beating Carter Hart on the short side just 39 seconds after Carolina was awarded a power play when Tomas Hertl tripped Jordan Staal at 3:17 of overtime. Sebastian Aho also drew an assist on the winner.
"It's incredible," Jarvis said according to NHL.com. "I've imagined doing that a lot. To be able to do it in real life is awesome." Before the period started, Mark Jankowski delivered a brief message: "Hey, it's your turn. You got one. And he delivered."
The Hurricanes trailed 2-0 through 40 minutes before an extraordinary five-goal stretch. Logan Stankoven cut it to 2-1 at 10:20 of the third with an unassisted wraparound that deflected in off Jeremy Lauzon — his 10th goal of the playoffs. Jankowski then tied it 2-2 at 12:46 with a glove-side wrist shot, his first playoff goal. Carolina took the lead on a power play at 15:25 when Staal redirected a Gostisbehere point shot 25 seconds after Vegas was penalized — the direct result of John Tortorella challenging a goaltender interference ruling that referee Jean Hebert had already waved off. The challenge failed, and the resulting minor put Carolina on the advantage that produced Staal's go-ahead goal. NHL officiating chief Stephen Walkom confirmed the call: "He believed that it was under the goalie, and the Vegas player went after the puck and interfered with the goalie and his ability to freeze the puck," per the AP. Vegas then pulled Hart for an extra skater and tied it 3-3 with 1:21 left when a Mark Stone shot deflected in off Carolina defenseman Jaccob Slavin.
Brett Howden had given Vegas its 2-0 lead with goals at 13:33 of the first period and 7:23 of the second. His 13th goal of the playoffs tied Jonathan Marchessault's Golden Knights franchise record for a single postseason, set in 2023, per the AP. Howden scored only 12 goals in 58 regular-season games this year, making him just the seventh player in NHL history to exceed his regular-season goal total in the postseason. Vegas also lost defenseman Brayden McNabb in the first period after he was struck in the face by an 87.3 mph Nikolaj Ehlers shot; ESPN reported he was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and the Golden Knights played the rest of the game a man short on the blue line.
Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour shuffled his lines in the second period, moving Jarvis off the top unit to play alongside Staal and Nikolaj Ehlers. "We were in a little funk there at that stage of the game, where it was just nothing really going, and we needed to do something to just change it up," Brind'Amour said. The Hurricanes' power play finished 2-for-4 after entering the game having generated zero shots on the man advantage in the series. Carolina is now a perfect 6-0 in overtime during the 2026 playoffs, and the club became the first team since 1994 to win a Cup Final game after trailing by multiple goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, according to NHL.com.
